Just for giggles I looked one last time in the under-the-stairs closet for rubbergirl's art supplies. The bag was right where I remembered leaving it. What's up with that? I swear I have a personal poltergeist who likes to hide stuff from me only to put the stuff back when I've given up looking. Current Mood: annoyed Current Music: Morning Morgantown (Joni Mitchell)

Two weeks ago I bought most of the paints I'll need for the cat portrait I'm painting for rubbergirl. I remember putting them with my other paints in my under the stairs closet. Guess what? They're not there. Where the heck are they?Current Mood: grumpy Current Music: Sean asking about lunch

The Yahoo! Bryce group is holding a challenge this month. Its theme is "Light and Airy" and both my renders for this month reflect this challenge.

November is Nanowrimo time again. To get myself in the mood for a whole bunch of writing, I've rendered some pencils. I've also stuck a keyboard in the picture as that's my actual utensil of choice for Nanowrimo. When I'm not writing under pressure, I start with pen or pencil on paper in cursive.
If you want to keep track of my progress, I'm caligula04 over there.

|
Every so often I get the idea that I should draw, paint or create a model of California poppy. I'm a native Californian, the flowers are the state flower and they grow everywhere. They're also my mother's favorite flower so I'm rather fond of them. They look so simple, just four or five orange petals, a thin green stem, some silly little leaves. That's all there is. But that's also the problem; that's all there is. There is no wiggle room. Anything that isn't quite right makes them look all wrong.
Below is my most recent attempt. After four attempts this time I've decided to stop and post the best of my tries.

I seem to have stumbled upon a series. The lighting set up for "Tomato" is very forgiving and flexible. I've been enjoying trying different models with the set up.
